Training Objectives:
- Train participants to conduct thorough scaffold inspections
- Ensure compliance with international standards (OSHA, BS EN 12811, TG20, etc.)
- Enable staff to identify hazards, document inspection findings, and tag scaffolds
appropriately - Minimize fall and collapse risks through proactive scaffold safety assurance
Course Outline / Modules:
Module 1: Introduction to Scaffolding Inspection
- Why inspections matter
- Accidents caused by inspection failure
- Inspector responsibilities and legal accountability
Module 2: Scaffold Types and Components
- Tube & coupler, system scaffolds (cuplock, ringlock), mobile towers
- Understanding scaffold structure: base plates, standards, ledgers, transoms, ties,
guardrails - Scaffold classification (light duty, general, heavy-duty)
Module 3: Applicable Standards and Codes
- OSHA 1926 Subpart L
- BS EN 12811 & NASC TG20 Guidelines
- Tagging systems (Green/Yellow/Red)
Module 4: Erection and Design Principles
- Load-bearing calculations and scaffold stability
- Proper spacing, bracing, tying, and decking
- Working platform access and fall protection
Module 5: Scaffold Inspection Process
- When and how often to inspect
- Pre-use, weekly, and post-incident inspections
- Visual checks vs. detailed inspections
Module 6: Common Scaffold Hazards
- Overloading and structural weaknesses
- Improper assembly or missing components
- Ground settlement, wind, and environmental impacts
Module 7: Documentation and Reporting
- Scaffold inspection checklist and formats
- Tagging procedures and non-compliance actions
- Reporting unsafe conditions and follow-up tracking
Module 8: Practical Assessment (Onsite Option)
- Hands-on scaffold walkaround
- Identifying and documenting defects
- Verbal justification of inspection decisions
Certification:
- Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completing the training
and passing the assessment.
